JOIN FORCES TO SUPPORT SCHOOL MUSIC
KING 5's Evening Magazine Meeghan Black to Emcee
SEATTLE, WA, February 2012 - Synergia Northwest announces its sponsors and partners in the 2012 event Music Matters "LIVE!" scheduled for May 12, 2012 at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle to benefit school music programs throughout Washington State. Bartell Drugs, the Puget Sound region's premiere family owned and locally operated pharmacy for over 120 years, has signed on as the Title Sponsor of the event. Supporting Sponsor BECU is offering special promotions and discounts for its employees and members. And this year’s Media Sponsors are award-winning NBC affiliate King 5 TV and Seattle’s top radio station, Warm 106.9 FM.
Meeghan Black, host of KING 5's Evening Magazine, now in its 25th year of serving the Seattle area, will be the evening’s emcee. Music Matters "LIVE!" marks the third annual benefit concert for Washington State Youth Music Education. The efforts of Synergia Northwest concerts over the past few years have helped Music Aid Northwest in bringing it’s "Music Matters" license plate fundraising proposal to fruition by raising capital needed to create a music-themed license plate that helps support school music programs through its sales. The plates are now available through the Washington State Department of Licensing.
The idea of this unique concert event was conceived by Seattle musician and producer Michael McMorrow. Music Matters "LIVE!” blends classical, contemporary, professional and student musicians in one concert, unifying cultures, ages and musical genres. The concert will feature the Synergia Northwest Orchestra alongside some of the Pacific Northwest's most high profile rock and pop recording artists and student musicians. Past performers have included Grammy award-winning Alan White (drummer for the band 'Yes' and John Lennon's landmark album “Imagine”), Tracy Bonham, Queensryche, 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominee Heart guitarist Howard Leese, and Blues Traveler's John Popper and Brendan Hill, among many others, all with Washington State ties.
The Music Matters "LIVE!" concerts have previously included a special musical selection highlighting a great classic rock recording with a notable orchestra component. This year, the Synergia Northwest Orchestra will have the honor of performing songs from Elton John's acclaimed album, "Madman Across the Water". Rocket Music Management on behalf of Sir Elton John donated the original scores by renowned arranger Paul Buckmaster (Rolling Stones, Train, Taylor Swift) which were later updated by film composer James Newton Howard (“Prince of Tides”, “The Dark Knight”) and Brad Dechter for full orchestra and choir, and most notably used during Elton John's "Live in Australia with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra" concert.
Music Matters "LIVE" producer McMorrow says, "This all really started for me because of one of my sons. Through him, I saw first-hand the powerful role music education plays in our kids' academic success. It lit a fire in me to help save our school music programs and one of the first steps was joining with Music Aid Northwest’s efforts to help create and bring attention to a permanent source of funding for our school music programs like the Music Matters license plate campaign. In producing the annual Music Matters "LIVE" concert, we are succeeding beyond my wildest dreams. And now adding these great community leaders, in addition to our deeply talented music community, is a boost to us all - and to the future of our school music programs. We look forward to announcing more about this year's event soon."
The first Synergia Northwest concert was launched in 2010 at Tacoma's historic Temple Ballroom in the Landmark Convention Center. In 2011, it made its Seattle debut at The Moore Theater.
